Former Vice Governor of Gansu, Yang Xing, falls from grace, previously warned for environmental issues

On June 12th, former vice governor of Gansu Province, Yang Zixing, is under investigation. He had previously been warned for the ecological issues in Qilian Mountain.

According to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Yang Zixing, former party member and vice governor of Gansu Province, is suspected of “serious violations of discipline and laws” and is currently under review and investigation.

65-year-old Yang Zixing has had a long career in Gansu Province, serving as the Deputy Secretary of the Longnan Municipal Party Committee, Mayor and Party Secretary of Dingxi City, and Deputy Minister of the Organization Department of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee in 2013. He was appointed as the vice governor of Gansu Province in 2015 before stepping down in 2018.

During his tenure as vice governor of Gansu Province, Yang Zixing had previously been warned. In 2017, the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council reported on the ecological and environmental issues in the Qilian Mountain National Nature Reserve. At the time, Yang Zixing, who was in charge of the ecological and environmental protection work in Qilian Mountain, was held accountable for the lack of strict supervision and was given a serious warning within the Party.

Shortly before Yang Zixing’s downfall, on the 5th of this month, Wei Zhirong, former Deputy Secretary of Dingxi City and former party member and Deputy Director of the Gansu Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, who had worked alongside Yang Zixing in Dingxi City, was expelled from the Party.

Wei Zhirong had served as a member of the Dingxi Municipal Party Committee, the Executive Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Government, and the Deputy Party Secretary from January 2007. He had worked together with Yang Zixing in the Dingxi Municipal Party Committee for six years.
