Recently in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, a woman climbed onto the roof of a car while traveling through the Qianjiang Tunnel on the Sutai Expressway and attempted to jump off the vehicle, nearly causing a chain traffic accident. The video of this incident quickly went viral online. Local authorities confirmed the incident but did not provide details on why the woman attempted to jump off the car.
According to reports from Chinese media outlets such as Sina and the Beijing News, on September 8th, a woman in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province climbed onto the roof of a sedan from the passenger seat and then jumped into the middle lane of the Qianjiang Tunnel, almost causing a chain traffic accident.
The circulated video footage shows that around 7 p.m. that evening, a sedan was driving normally inside the Qianjiang Tunnel of the Sutai Expressway when suddenly a woman climbed from the passenger seat onto the car’s roof and then jumped into the middle lane. The driver of a nearby truck immediately slowed down and swerved to avoid a collision, almost tipping over, while a semi-trailer truck behind the sedan had to make an emergency lane change to prevent a rear-end collision.
On the 9th, staff from the Qianjiang Tunnel monitoring center responded to the media, stating that after the incident, the center urgently contacted the rescue department to handle the situation. However, both the white sedan and the woman who jumped off the car had already left the scene, and the matter was subsequently handed over to the traffic police for further investigation.
Local traffic police officials mentioned that the woman who jumped off the car sustained injuries and was taken to Ningbo Hospital for treatment, with no life-threatening concerns. Her behavior was deemed abnormal, and an assessment of her mental state is pending.
