The 11th “Moon Festival at New Century” will take place in Deerpark, Orange County, New York State from September 19th to 20th, welcoming families to come and enjoy.
This event, known as one of the largest Asian food and cultural festivals in the Hudson Valley region, has attracted over tens of thousands of visitors annually in recent years. This year, it will once again focus on Chinese traditional culture, where visitors can walk through the quaint “Ancient Town Market” archway, stroll along the “Market Streets” adorned with colorful lanterns, and admire the “Moon Palace” themed area featuring elements like auspicious clouds, lotus flowers, and giant drums. Attendees can also enjoy spectacular performances of classical Chinese dances, Chinese traditional musical instruments, and Western musical instruments while sitting on the ground or under tents.
According to the organizer, New Century Corporation, the Mid-Autumn Festival will also transform moonlight and legends from ancient Chinese poems into scenes that can be appreciated: the Moon Palace, Chang’e, Jade Rabbit, and traditional stories like “Wu Gang Chopping Laurel” will be presented in the park. The festival will also feature lantern riddles, children’s games, tea villages, as well as a rich variety of Asian cuisine and cultural market stalls.
As the night falls in early autumn, in the vast open space of the suburban areas of upstate New York, away from the hustle and bustle, gazing at the starry sky and bright moon brings a different kind of artistic conception.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on September 19th (Saturday) and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 20th (Sunday) at New Century, 517 Neversink Drive, Port Jervis, NY 12771. The event is free to enter with a $5 parking fee.
