Former Party Secretary of Guizhou Maotai Zhao Shuyue Investigated After Retirement for 8 Years

In recent years, multiple senior executives of Guizhou Maotai have been investigated and sentenced. The latest news indicates that former Party Secretary Zhao Shuyue was investigated after retiring for 8 years.

According to the announcement released on August 14 by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the Communist Party of China, Zhao Shuyue, former Deputy Party Secretary of China Guizhou Maotai Distillery (Group) Co., Ltd., is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Guizhou Province Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission.

Public records show that Zhao Shuyue was born in August 1958, holds a university degree, and is a senior political worker. He has held various positions including Deputy Secretary of the Guizhou University Youth League Committee, Deputy Director of the Cadre Department of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection (in charge of work), Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, Member of the Guizhou Province National Defense Science and Technology Industrial Committee, and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection.

In August 2004, Zhao Shuyue was appointed as the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Maotai Group.

In September 2018, Maotai Group held a leadership cadre conference and announced the appointment and removal notice of the Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission Party Committee: Zhao Shuyue was no longer appointed as the Deputy Secretary and member of the Group’s Party Committee, and proceeded to retire.

It is worth noting that in recent years, several top executives of Maotai Group have fallen from grace.

In September 2021, former Chairman of Maotai Group, Yuan Renguo, was sentenced to life imprisonment for bribery, involving more than 1.129 billion yuan; In September 2023, Yuan Renguo passed away in prison. In February 2024, former Chairman Gao Weidong was sentenced to life imprisonment for bribery, involving more than 110 million yuan, of which more than 46.56 million yuan was not actually obtained.

In January 2025, former Party Secretary and Chairman of Maotai Group, Ding Xiongjun, was investigated and subsequently prosecuted in May of the same year; In September of that year, Zhou Zhenqian, Deputy General Manager of Guizhou Maotai Distillery (Group) Technology Development Co., Ltd., was investigated; In April this year, Jiang Yan, Deputy General Manager, Chief Financial Officer, and Secretary of the Board of Directors of Guizhou Maotai, was under investigation.
