Mengshi Tongji Association Awards Scholarships to Six Prospective College Students.

The Kiwanis Club of Monterey Park has been awarding scholarships for many years to encourage outstanding young students. This year, the scholarship amount has been increased from $300 per person to $750, which is awarded to high school graduates who are about to enter college. The selection criteria for the scholarship not only consider academic excellence but also value students’ involvement in community service and membership in the Key Club, the youth service organization of the international Kiwanis Club.

Through a written application and interview selection process, the Kiwanis Club of Monterey Park selected six scholarship recipients for the year 2026 and held an award ceremony on June 3 (Wednesday). The six students who received the Kiwanis Club of Monterey Park scholarships this year are Mindy Lin and Madeline Sarmiento from Alhambra High School, as well as Linda Xie, Yuby Contreras, Hannah Hou, and Selina Tang from Mark Keppel High School.

On the day of the ceremony, Mayor Elizabeth Yang of Monterey Park personally congratulated the recipients and presented certificates on behalf of the city government, recognizing their outstanding performance in academics and community service.

The Kiwanis Club of Monterey Park hopes that through awarding scholarships, students will be encouraged to continue to strive for excellence, advance their studies, and actively engage in community service while remembering to give back to society, carrying forward the spirit of caring for children and serving the community.

Founded in 1915, Kiwanis International is one of the three largest service-oriented volunteer organizations globally, alongside Lions Clubs International and Rotary International. The organization’s core mission is “Serving the Children of the World,” and it has been committed to children, youth care, and community service for many years.
