Photo Gallery: 2,000 Previously Unseen June 4th Photos (13)

This year marks the 37th anniversary of the “June 4th” incident. Epoch Times has exclusively obtained over two thousand previously unreleased historical photos of the “June 4th” event, shedding light on those years that the Chinese Communist Party has tried hard to cover up and erase.

In the spring and summer of 1989, a student-led democracy movement ignited at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, shaking the world and quickly spreading across China. Millions of students and citizens took to the streets to express their opposition to corruption, and to demand democracy and freedom in a peaceful and rational manner. However, the top echelons of the Chinese Communist Party secretly mobilized a large number of regular troops, launching a full-scale crackdown on civilians with tanks and machine guns in the early hours of June 4th. According to unofficial estimates, the CCP shot and killed thousands to tens of thousands of people.

An official photographer at the time witnessed the events and meticulously documented this historical episode, capturing a large number of rolls of film that had been gathering dust for 37 years. These precious photos were entrusted to Epoch Times through intermediaries by individuals in the know, fulfilling the elderly photographer’s wish. The collection includes both color and black-and-white photos, totaling over 2,000 images. Recently, the Chinese authorities have been threatening and harassing individuals they believe are associated with these photos, including Chinese and American citizens.

Over the past 37 years, the Chinese Communist Party has continued to cover up and suppress the truth of the incident, smearing the peaceful demonstrations of the students as “counter-revolutionary riots,” and long denying the fact that the military opened fire on civilians. However, history will not disappear due to censorship.

In order to fulfill the dying wish of the elderly photographer, Epoch Times has released this collection of “June 4th” photos that have been dormant for 37 years in batches for the first time, guiding readers back to that sorrowful historical moment, reminding the world not to forget the CCP’s bloody massacre of its own people. The CCP today continues to intensify its persecution and intimidation of innocent citizens, including threatening Epoch Times staff not to publish these photos.
