China’s leading power bank manufacturer Romos issues internal notice: Extends shutdown status.

On December 31, 2025, the well-known Chinese power bank brand Romoss once again announced through internal documents that they would continue the state of shutdown and production suspension. Romoss had previously issued a notice of shutdown and production suspension for six months on July 6, 2025.

According to a report by Blue Whale News on January 4, it was learned from informed sources that Romoss, which had been embroiled in the controversy of power banks “self-igniting” and “exploding,” has internally initiated a restructuring plan called the “Rebirth Project.” The relevant project work is set to officially start in January 2026. As per the plan, Romoss will strive to complete the fund injection and restructuring work in the first quarter of 2026, simultaneously reacquiring new 3C certification and fully restoring its product sales system.

On January 5, China News Network reported that inquiries were made to Romoss’ flagship store customer service on a certain e-commerce platform. The customer service stated that based on the current needs of business strategy adjustments, the company has decided to extend the shutdown status for some departments.

Records show that Romoss is a consumer electronics company founded in Shenzhen in 2012, mainly producing mobile power banks, outdoor power sources, data charging cables, power adapters, and other 3C digital peripheral products.

Since 2025, Romoss has faced incidents such as recalling power banks, suspension of a large number of mobile power sources due to 3C certifications, which have repeatedly raised public concern.

In mid-June last year, Romoss power banks were suspected of being prone to “explosions,” leading several universities in Beijing to ban their use. At that time, Romoss issued a public apology and requested the recall of over 490,000 units of Romoss power banks manufactured between June 5, 2023, and July 31, 2024, citing the possibility of overheating during use, which could pose a combustion risk in extreme scenarios.

According to reports at the time, the recall incident plunged the company into difficulties, with several consumers claiming they were unable to get refunds. Company employees also mentioned that since July 1, 2025, they had gradually received comprehensive notices of shutdown and production suspension, although no formal announcement was made then.

On July 6, 2025, Romoss issued a notice for shutdown, production suspension, and leave, announcing a six-month suspension from July 7. Apart from recalling relevant employees, all other staff were put on hold.

The shutdown and production suspension led to the Romoss employees’ lives being in dire straits. At the time, a middle-level employee at Romoss leaked information that the company’s top five core executives had all gone missing and fled to Malaysia following the incident. They were accused of treating the company as a “cash machine,” hoarding hundreds of millions of funds but refusing to compensate the employees.

The 3C certification certificates for several fast-charging mobile power products of Shenzhen Romoss Technology Co., Ltd. were revoked on September 16 and 17, 2025.

On December 11, 2025, Romoss was confiscated illegal gains amounting to 12,366 yuan by the Nanshan Supervision Bureau of the Shenzhen Market Supervision Administration and fined 1,230,000 yuan. The penalty was imposed on Shenzhen Romoss Technology Co., Ltd. for violating mandatory certification regulations and false advertising, under the reason of illegal acts of certification recognition.
