Chongqing Fengdu County, 20-year-old girl Zhang Jinbao, was abducted in her home by a group of more than twenty officials in November last year and has been missing ever since. Her mother, Zhang Cuiying, has been tirelessly seeking information about her daughter’s whereabouts through various channels and continuously exposing the abduction online, but so far, there has been no news.
Zhang Cuiying anxiously requested assistance from the reporter of Dajiyuan to expose the nature of the persecution by the authorities, saying, “Corrupt officials have taken away my daughter’s compensation. Now, my child has been missing for over a year with no communication with the outside world, and there is no information at all!”
Around 10 o’clock on November 22, 2024, while Zhang Cuiying was out, more than twenty people with a mafia-like gang organized by the Chongqing Fengdu County Government and Fengdu County Public Security Bureau broke into her home. They knocked unconscious her sister, Zhang Cuizhen, who was living with them, snatched her phone, and forcibly abducted Zhang Jinbao and took her away in an unlicensed ambulance. Although Zhang Cuiying has reported the incident multiple times, the police have not taken any action. Over a year later, there is still no news of Zhang Jinbao.
After painstaking inquiries, Zhang Cuiying learned from officials that her daughter Zhang Jinbao was sent to the Fengdu County Mental Hospital. She immediately went to the hospital to search, but the hospital denied her entry. A week after the incident, around 11 pm one night, a leader surnamed Yang from the Fengdu County Petition Office called Zhang Cuiying, threatening her and asking whether she wanted money or her daughter. He mentioned that the request for kidney transplant treatment for her daughter was too high and unreasonable. Since then, there has been no further communication.
On March 13, 2013, Zhang Jinbao, then a third-grader at Xinxian Primary School in Sanhe Street, Fengdu County, Chongqing, was severely beaten by a male classmate, Dai Yunfei, causing damage to her left kidney and spleen, requiring a kidney transplant. Due to the exorbitant medical costs associated with the transplant, the family could not afford it, and after six years at Chongqing Children’s Hospital, Zhang Jinbao had to be discharged for home rest.
Without proper treatment due to financial constraints, Zhang Jinbao suffered from multiple organ failure, kidney disease syndrome, high uric acid, urinary tract infections, chronic severe pneumonia, chronic heart failure, chronic kidney failure, ischemic optic nerve atrophy in both eyes, and other serious conditions, rendering her unable to care for herself.
Zhang Cuiying has been tirelessly fighting for her daughter’s treatment and legal rights, but due to her petitions and reports, she has become a target of relevant departments and officials. She was detained in a detention center on two separate occasions for over two months, where she was subjected to beatings by several inmates, resulting in four broken ribs and three fractured vertebrae. She was shackled with heavy ankle cuffs and handcuffs for over twenty days, unable to use the toilet properly and defecating in her pants.
Due to her daughter’s illness, Zhang Cuiying has been striving to seek justice, leading to financial ruin and mounting debts with no source of income. In recent years, Zhang Cuiying has appealed to the authorities to provide her daughter with a kidney transplant and bear the corresponding treatment costs or provide appropriate compensation. However, these appeals have been deemed as excessive demands by the officials.
On December 21, 2024, Zhang Cuiying received a notice from the community committee to vacate their residence or face legal action to reclaim the occupancy fees for housing and utilities from 2013 to the present. This was a small house of about 20 square meters where they were relocated by the authorities after her daughter’s incident. Zhang Cuiying believes that now, with her daughter missing and her continuous advocacy, the authorities are trying to cast her off as a hot potato.
Forced by circumstances, Zhang Cuiying went to the Chongqing Civil Affairs Bureau to report the situation. A receptionist held up a document and read out to Zhang Cuiying, “An annual subsidy of 7,500 yuan for Zhang Cuiying, allocation of an 80 square meter house, and a monthly subsidy of 500 yuan.” However, Zhang Cuiying had not received any of these benefits. When she requested a copy of the document, she was refused, citing it as classified. Zhang Cuiying suspects that these subsidies have been embezzled by corrupt officials.
