Singer Chen Hong Accused by Ex-Husband of Illegally Transferring Assets Worth Billions of Dollars

Chinese Singer Chen Hong, who became famous for her song “Go Home Often,” has recently re-emerged into the public eye due to a legal battle over billions of yuan with her ex-husband Li Jun, the owner of “Beijing Asia Jay” car trading company.

On September 19th, Li Jun, the owner of “Beijing Asia Jay” car trading company, publicly accused his ex-wife Chen Hong of multiple illegal activities, alleging that she illegally transferred and misappropriated core assets under the “Asia Jay” group and Li Jun’s name, involving billions of yuan through means such as forging signatures during their marriage and after their divorce.

Li Jun explained that from the early 1990s to 2014, he invested in and founded the “Beijing Asia Jay” series of companies, covering various industries. Information from Tianyancha shows that Li Jun is still the legal representative of “Beijing Asia Jay” Automobile Trading Co., Ltd., holding an 80% stake. Additionally, Li Jun is a shareholder in several other “Asia Jay” series companies.

Chen Hong rose to fame in 1999 with her performance of “Go Home Often,” and in 2001, she registered her marriage with Li Jun. The couple agreed to divorce on March 5, 2014. Li Jun claimed that before the divorce, Chen Hong had already started illegally seizing assets. He alleged that Chen Hong held a meeting on February 19, 2014, without his presence or knowledge, and falsified meeting minutes. Subsequent judicial appraisals and court rulings confirmed the illegality of the meeting, invalidating the resolutions made.

Li Jun provided detailed information during his report: after their divorce, Chen Hong reportedly sold off company vehicles, goods, and fixed assets, and illegally mortgaged company properties for a total of nearly 3 billion yuan.

According to Li Jun, while these events were unfolding, he was abroad and had his sister and mother report the illegal activities to the authorities but was unable to stop the situation. Upon his return from the United States, he discovered that funds from over a hundred bank accounts had been fully depleted. Furthermore, Chen Hong allegedly unlawfully exercised the position of the company’s legal representative, transferring a 1.2 billion yuan debt to the “Aurora Breeze” company and also transferred the Mercedes-Benz dealership to this company.

Starting from 2015, both Chen Hong and Li Jun filed lawsuits against each other in Beijing courts. According to publicly available court rulings, the agency contract specified in clause 8.5 of the equity transfer agreement was terminated in April 2016. In lawsuits related to clause 8.5, Chen Hong accused Li Jun of hiding and transferring a substantial sum of 1.1 billion yuan by various means, increasing the company’s debt burden to 1.7 billion yuan, depleting assets she was entitled to manage. Additionally, Chen Hong claimed that her mother, who held 99% of the company’s shares, was holding them on behalf of Li Jun and Chen Hong.

According to Tianyancha, in May of this year, Li Jun was ordered to pay around 659 million yuan and the total amount involved in the high-limit case was about 664 million yuan. Several companies related to Li Jun have since been revoked. “Asia Jay” has transformed from a once healthy large enterprise group into an empty shell company, with its registered address even changed to a warehouse, while Li Jun himself has had his assets frozen, cutting off his source of income.

Responding to Li Jun’s claims of reporting Chen Hong’s illegal actions, Chen Hong’s legal representative stated that the court judgments are public and suggested verifying with the police if a case has been filed or accepted, adding that it is an unlikely scenario. They also indicated that they would contact Chen Hong to inquire about a response.

Some netizens discovered through Chen Hong’s Douyin account that she has recently attended events in Guangdong, Shandong, and other places. Under her videos, some netizens posted Li Jun’s report information for verification but did not receive a response from Chen Hong.

On September 27, Chen Hong posted on social media, saying, “No matter how much turmoil there is in the world, I still believe that love fills humanity. May women in marriages have less betrayal and harm, and may men have more responsibility and dedication. Go home often!”
