On June 26th, a landslide occurred in Donglan Town, Donglan County, Guangxi, damaging houses and crushing vehicles.
A viral video showed that the collapsed mountain was tens of meters high, directly next to residential buildings and a car maintenance center. At the scene, a large number of rocks could be seen sliding down. The rocks not only hit the parked vehicles and makeshift sheds below, but also pierced the walls of houses near the mountain, causing pillars to fracture.
Local netizens commented on the video, saying “It’s right next to my house, almost got hit.” “The drought followed by heavy rain easily leads to landslides.” “There have been several landslides, it’s really dangerous, getting worse each time.”
According to a shop owner nearby, the incident occurred around 1 pm, “I was outside at the time, it didn’t affect us much, everything’s fine. The houses further inside were slightly damaged, caused by the rain.”
The shop owner mentioned that the scene has been secured and staff are currently handling the situation.
Another merchant nearby told Jixmu News that several cars were parked at the scene of the incident, some of which were crushed. There have been no reports of injuries so far.
Reports indicate that Donglan County has been experiencing rare heavy rainfall since June 19th. The accumulated rainfall at 18 stations in 9 towns of the county exceeded 250 millimeters, with maximum hourly rainfall of 79.6 millimeters and maximum three-hour rainfall of 165.3 millimeters, reaching the level of a torrential rainstorm. Nala Village in Sanshi Town received 226 millimeters of rainfall in 24 hours, breaking the historical record for that station.
The heavy rainfall has caused varying degrees of damage to crops, houses, and roads in 14 towns of the entire county.
