Discontent Among Parents as Whole Pot of Meat in a School Cafeteria in Kunming is Found to Be Rotten

On October 16th, a parent in Kunming, Yunnan, posted a video saying that the raw meat in the cafeteria of Changfeng School in Guandu District had a bad smell, with the whole pan of meat being rotten, triggering collective dissatisfaction among the parents.

According to the feedback from parents on the scene, they found that the meat emitted a strange smell, questioning the serious issues in the school cafeteria’s food safety management.

The related video shows several large pots of meat on the work table. A parent said, “The whole pot of meat is rotten, I wonder how you can cook it for the children to eat.”

In the video, parents emotionally accused the school cafeteria, asking, “Do you have a conscience? Smell it yourself (if the meat is rotten)” and stated that they had reported it to the police.

Another parent posted on social media, “The parent committee has raised concerns many times but they have all been suppressed by the grade director. Let’s see how they respond this time.”

On October 16th, mainland Chinese media such as The Paper News reported that after the incident, multiple departments and parent committees were working on resolving the issue at the school.

Staff from the Guandu District Education Bureau stated that some meat with a strange smell had been confirmed on the scene and samples had been taken for testing.

At the same time, the Education Bureau requested the school to solicit parents’ opinions, consider changing the outsourced catering company, and terminate the catering service at the cafeteria.

The Market Supervision and Administration Bureau and the Education and Sports Bureau of Guandu District issued a notice stating that around 12:30 pm on October 16th, they received a report of a problem with the pork in the cafeteria at Changfeng School in Guandu District. Upon preliminary investigation, it was found that the raw pork waiting to be processed had an abnormal smell. The cafeteria ingredients were sealed, tested, and traced. Currently, the school and the company involved have been under investigation, and the cafeteria services have been suspended.

School cafeterias in China’s mainland have frequently been exposed for using problematic ingredients, leading to abnormal situations for students after consumption. The incident has attracted public attention after being reported.

A netizen from Guangdong, “LGADOT,” said: “There’s no need to question, the students’ money is the most important to earn.”

A netizen from Hubei, “百折不撓DE喬茜_行龍,” commented: “This is truly outrageous.”
