In 2024, the political scene in Tangshan City, Hebei Province has been turbulent. Over the past four months, Hebei authorities have announced the investigation and removal of 10 senior provincial officials, all of whom are related to Tangshan.
On August 11th at 9 PM, the Hebei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision website issued two consecutive reports on local officials being investigated:
One of them is He Chunjun, the Deputy Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee, who is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law. He is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the provincial disciplinary commission and supervision commission.
Public records show that He Chunjun has served long-term positions in Tangshan City, Hebei Province, including positions such as Member of the Fengrun District Committee, Deputy District Governor, Deputy Secretary of the District Committee, District Governor, Secretary of the Kaiping District Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Tangshan Municipal People’s Congress.
In 2020, He Chunjun was transferred to be a member of the Standing Committee of the Cangzhou City Party Committee and the Deputy Mayor, and in January 2023, he became the Deputy Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee.
Additionally, Li Li, member of the Tangshan City Party Committee and Director of the Propaganda Department, has also been accused of serious violations of discipline and law. She is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the provincial disciplinary commission and supervision commission.
Public records indicate that Li Li, a native of Guye District in Tangshan City, has held various positions in Tangshan, such as Member of the Xianhe County Committee (now Caofeidian District), Director of the Propaganda Department, Director of the Organization Department, Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department of the Tangshan City Committee, Director of the Civilized Office, Director of the Grain Bureau, Director of the Cultural, Radio, Television, and Tourism Bureau, and Vice Minister of the Organization Department of the Tangshan City Committee. She has been a member of the Tangshan City Committee and Director of the Propaganda Department since 2021.

On April 5th, Li Jianzhong, Deputy Mayor of Tangshan was investigated; On April 9th, Li Guifu, Deputy Secretary of the Tangshan Municipal People’s Congress and Secretary of the Qianxi County Party Committee was investigated; On April 30th, Guo Yanhong, former Director of the Tangshan Municipal People’s Congress was investigated; On May 21st, Yang Jie, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Tangshan Municipal People’s Congress was investigated.
