Street Collapses in a Neighbourhood in Guiyang, with Residential Buildings below the Slope

On June 23, in Kaiyang County, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, a road in a residential area collapsed, with cracks appearing on the adjacent road. Beneath the collapsed slope were residential buildings.

Recently, a video circulating online showed the internal road collapse in a residential area in Kaiyang County, Guizhou Province. The collapsed road is close to residential buildings with noticeable cracks. Beneath the collapsed slope are residential buildings.

Reported by “Da Wan News,” the video was taken in the Dapingzi residential area of Kaiyang County. On the 24th, officials from Zixing Street Office, responsible for the area, confirmed the incident, and nearby residents have been evacuated.

Officials mentioned that frequent rainfall in recent days may be the main reason for the road collapse.

Some netizens ridiculed the official statement, saying, “All disasters are caused by nature.”

Others questioned the official explanation, believing that the collapse was related to construction quality. “The main issue is construction quality. Insufficient attention given to geological problems, followed by weather.” “This situation is likely due to insufficient depth of the retaining wall foundation at that time, or it’s a quality problem.”

Road collapses have been reported in many parts of mainland China.

For example, in the early hours of June 21, a road near Jilili West Road, under construction for Chengdu Metro Line 13 in Sichuan, collapsed, creating a massive crater.

In the early hours of May 1, a section of the Guangdong Meidagao Expressway collapsed, resulting in at least 48 deaths and 30 injuries. The road was built by a state-owned enterprise and had not been in operation for ten years. Following the accident, the public expressed strong anger and demanded severe punishment for those responsible for shoddy construction.

In January, a road collapse occurred in Minhang District, Shanghai, with an area of about 10 square meters. Shortly after, a depression appeared on the south side of the crosswalk at the intersection of Shenbin Road and Xinghong Road in Shanghai.
