Pretending to be a delivery worker to commit theft, suspect arrested in Irvine

The Irvine Police Department revealed that on June 19, a 37-year-old West African man was arrested for being involved in at least four cases of breaking into homes while posing as a food delivery person.

According to the city’s news agency, Irvine Police Department’s Kyle Oldoerp stated that Marcus Allen Corner from Liberia was arrested on Tuesday (18th) on charges of theft.

Investigators suspect that Corner has been carrying out theft activities in townhouses and apartments in the city since November last year. Oldoerp mentioned that through surveillance footage, it was confirmed that Corner was involved in at least four cases of break-in theft.

The Irvine police are also collaborating with law enforcement agencies in neighboring cities to determine if the suspect is involved in other home burglary cases.

In one surveillance video, the suspect was seen walking around with a Starbucks bag, with a receipt attached to it.

Oldoerp explained, “This made him appear to be making deliveries, allowing him to look for unlocked doors and windows.”

Authorities believe that Corner would also search for keys under doormats to carry out his crimes opportunistically.

Oldoerp emphasized, “This incident highlights the importance of installing surveillance cameras. It played a decisive role in locating the suspect.”

He also revealed that the police had posted information about the suspect on social media last month, leading a victim to contact investigators.
