A 15-year-old freshman girl in Zhengzhou, Henan Province was forced into sexual harassment by a man referred to as the “instructor” during a so-called “military training and quality improvement” activity organized by the school. What’s even more shocking is that the man involved is not a regular military instructor but a temporary hire, who had previously been involved in theft and was not charged by the prosecutor’s office, and was administratively detained. Currently, the man Liang has been criminally detained.
This incident reportedly occurred in 2025. From October 2nd to 5th of that year, the Fourth High School of Zhengzhou City organized “military training and quality improvement” activities for some freshmen.
On the last day, Liang, the so-called “instructor”, brought the 15-year-old freshman Mu Xiaoli (pseudonym) to the staircase between the boys’ dormitory under the pretext of a bed check and allegedly sexually harassed her.
According to Mu Xiaoli’s recollection, on October 5th, Liang only notified her and another male classmate, Li, to participate in the bed check. After entering the boys’ dormitory, Liang separated Li under the pretext of a bed check and then cornered her between the stairs from the first to the second floor, where he allegedly sexually harassed her. She tried to leave and call for help, but Liang grabbed her and covered her mouth.
During this time, when Li returned, Liang let go and warned Mu Xiaoli not to speak while Li was asked to recheck the dorm room and record it.
Mu Xiaoli recalled that Liang continued the harassment until Li came downstairs for the second time, and he threatened her, saying, “Don’t tell anyone, or everyone will know and you’ll be finished in school.”
After the incident, Mu Xiaoli returned to the team and went to the restroom during break time, feeling “pain in her body, almost unable to stand.”
Mu Xiaoli’s friend, Jiang Zhu (pseudonym), said that Mu Xiaoli looked very bad after the bed check and cried in the restroom that day, telling her about the incident, but she was afraid to report it. Jiang Zhu informed their life teacher, Wu.
The following day after the incident, Mu Xiaoli reportedly cut her wrist and told her mother about the ordeal. Her family stated that she later walked to the top of the teaching building, contemplating jumping.
Eight days after the incident, she again self-harmed by cutting her wrists. She was diagnosed with acute stress reaction by the hospital.
In November 2025, Mu Xiaoli cut her wrist again. Her family brought her back from Zhengzhou Fourth High School, and she has not returned to that school since then.
Medical records from the local hospital showed that she exhibited symptoms such as “emotional distress, unwillingness to revisit the incident, and suicidal thoughts,” with an outpatient diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder.
In March 2026, she ran away from home and took an overdose, later being found and sent to the hospital for emergency treatment by her family.
It wasn’t until April 2026 that Mu Xiaoli transferred from Zhengzhou Fourth High School to another high school.
The investigation revealed that the Zhengzhou Fourth High School’s commissioning of the Zhengzhou Wolf Warrior Education Information Consulting Co., Ltd. to conduct the “military training and quality improvement” activities lacked the necessary qualifications for student military training.
Liang, the individual involved, was not a regular military training personnel but a temporary employee of the company.
Of further concern is Liang’s previous criminal record.
The indictment shows that Liang, born in 1994, was previously not charged for theft by the Xiachi County Prosecutor’s Office on November 24, 2021; and he was administratively detained for 12 days by Xiachi County Public Security Bureau on May 31, 2022.
After the sexual harassment incident, Liang was criminally detained on October 8, 2025, and subsequently prosecuted.
According to the indictment issued by the Huji District Procuratorate of Zhengzhou City, from 10:28 to 10:38 on October 5, 2025, Liang took advantage of his position as a “instructor” for freshmen at Fourth High School of Zhengzhou to check on the dormitory affairs, twice separated the accompanying student Li, and took the opportunity to ignore the resistance of the 15-year-old female victim, forcibly hug, kiss, and commit sexual harassment against her.
This incident also exposed loopholes in the management when schools commission social organizations to conduct so-called “military training” activities.
It was reported that the formal military training at Fourth High School of Zhengzhou in August 2025 had already been completed. However, at the beginning of October, the school privately relied on the Wolf Warrior Company to organize a 4-day training for three classes under the guise of “military training and quality improvement.”
According to relevant regulations for military training instruction for students, instructors for basic military skills training should ideally be taken on by active-duty or reserve forces, and schools can also hire retired military personnel. There should be strict scrutiny of military training instructors.
However, the individuals involved in this incident were not only temporary hires but also had a previous record of theft.
Even more worrisome is that after the incident, the victim’s friend informed a school life teacher of the situation, but according to Mu Xiaoli’s recollection, the teacher thought it was not a big deal and simply provided some counseling.
Currently, the case has entered the judicial process, with the court commissioning forensic appraisal institutions to determine the causal relationship between Mu Xiaoli’s physical, mental damages, and related damages and Liang’s actions.
In July and August of the previous year, three forensic appraisal institutions cited “exceeding technical conditions and appraisal capabilities” as reasons for not accepting the case.
From leaving Zhengzhou Fourth High School in November 2025 to transferring schools in April 2026, Mu Xiaoli’s campus life was completely disrupted.
Her mother said, “If it’s just a physical wound, it can heal, but with physical and psychological harm, it’s destroying the child.”
