The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a notice on Thursday (August 13) recalling about 250,000 10-liter and 15-liter mini-fridges by Cooluli due to the risk of internal electrical switches short-circuiting, posing a fire and burn hazard.
Cooluli, an American fridge brand, explained on its website that “in some older models, the switch used to toggle between ‘Cooling/Warming’ modes may overheat.”
According to CPSC, Cooluli has received at least 19 reports of products smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, or catching fire, resulting in over $80,000 in property damage, with one consumer reporting inhalation of smoke.
The recall involves approximately 250,000 10-liter and 15-liter Cooluli mini-fridges, but not all products of the same capacities are included in the recall. The affected products feature built-in power supplies with two power interfaces on the back of the fridge, designated as AC and DC; the removable power cord does not use a “brick-style” power adapter commonly found with laptop chargers.
The recalled products include Cooluli’s Infinity, Classic, Glow Beauty, and Vibe series with batch numbers ranging from 1535 to 1545 and 1200000 to 1202080. The model (ITEM #) and batch numbers are printed on a label inside the fridge door. The products come in various colors such as black, blue, green, white, and red, with different patterns, photos, and logos.
These mini-fridges were sold on Cooluli’s official website and Amazon.com from January 2019 to October 2024, with prices ranging from $80 to $120. Cooluli stated that the recall only affects specific early production batches, and most Cooluli fridges are not impacted; new products equipped with external power supplies are also not within the recall scope.
CPSC and Cooluli urge consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products. Consumers should visit Cooluli’s product recall page, enter the fridge model and batch numbers to check if their product is affected by the recall.
For recalled products, consumers will be asked to unplug the fridge, cut the original power cord, and submit a photo showing the model and batch numbers. Cooluli will provide a free replacement DC power cord and a permanent sticker to cover the AC interface, instead of replacing the entire fridge.
According to CPSC data, these products were manufactured by Ningbo Iceberg Electronic Appliance Co., Ltd. in China and imported by Lisse USA LLC in Brooklyn, New York.
