On the afternoon of July 26th, Gansu Shuangshimen Scenic Area was hit by a sudden heavy rainstorm, triggering flash floods. As of 6 p.m. that evening, the disaster had resulted in 10 deaths and 23 injuries.
According to a report from the official Chinese state media, CCTV News, the Shuangshimen Scenic Area in Weiyuan County, Dingxi City, Gansu Province, was affected by a short but intense rainstorm on the afternoon of July 26th, leading to flash floods that trapped some camping tourists. Following on-site verification, it was confirmed that by 6 p.m., 10 individuals had lost their lives, 23 were injured, and 174 people had been rescued.
Rescue operations are still ongoing at present.
The Shuangshimen Scenic Area is located 10 kilometers south of Huichuan Town in Weiyuan County, about 50 kilometers from the county seat, and is known as the “Shangri-La on the Loess Plateau.” The area boasts natural landscapes such as alpine meadows, stream valleys, with an elevation ranging from about 2400 to 2800 meters. The scenic area features many rocky and water-crossing sections, with a complex terrain.
