In Chongqing’s Pengshui County, a large-scale mountain collapse occurred on July 17th, with the death toll rising to 14 people as of July 24th.
On the evening of July 24th, Pengshui County issued a report stating that as of 10 p.m. on July 24th, 3 more victims had been found. This brings the total number of fatalities to 14. However, the report did not mention the cause of the mountain collapse.
At around 9 a.m. on July 17th, a large-scale mountain collapse took place in Pengshui County, Chongqing, causing multiple residential buildings to collapse and trapping residents. According to official reports, the incident resulted in 11 deaths, 10 injuries, and 50 people missing. Due to the Chinese Communist Party’s usual practice of concealing the true extent of disasters, there have been doubts regarding the actual death toll of the landslide.
Local resident Chen Jianhua revealed to Epoch Times, “13 buildings collapsed, with people living inside, some managed to escape, while others didn’t make it out.” Another resident, Wei Jianzhong, also commented, “More than ten buildings collapsed over tens of meters. There are people living in over a dozen buildings, so there should be over a hundred people buried inside.”
Furthermore, a villager from Datong Town in Pengshui County told Epoch Times reporters that a early morning bus traveling to and from Datong Town passed through the street where the landslide occurred and unfortunately got buried, with about 19 people on board.
