The results of the US congressional elections are still coming in, but it has been confirmed that the Republican Party has gained control of the Senate. They are now closing in on gaining control of the House of Representatives as well.
As of the deadline for this report on Monday, according to data from Decision Desk HQ, a US election forecasting agency, the Republicans have secured 217 seats in the House, just one seat away from the 218 needed for control. The Democrats have obtained 209 seats, with 9 seats still awaiting results.
According to the Associated Press (AP) statistics, the Republicans have already secured 214 seats, requiring only 4 more to gain control of the House. The Democrats hold 204 seats, with the results of 17 seats yet to be announced by the AP.
Politico has outlined several key races to watch:
– Alaska At-Large District: With approximately 80% of the votes counted, incumbent Democratic Representative Mary Peltola is trailing her Republican opponent Nick Begich by over 10,000 votes. Rural votes are expected to favor her, but catching up to Republican challenger Begich poses a significant challenge.
– Arizona’s 6th District: With around 83% of the votes counted, incumbent Republican Federal Representative Juan Ciscomani is leading again in this swing seat in southern Arizona. However, his lead over Democratic opponent Kirsten Engel is narrow, with only about 2,000 votes separating them.
– California’s 22nd District: With approximately 77% of the votes counted, Republican Federal Representative David Valadao is leading Democratic challenger Rudy Salas by over 10,000 votes, with a lead of over 7 percentage points.
– California’s 41st District: With approximately 76% of the votes counted, long-time incumbent Republican Federal Representative Ken Calvert expanded his lead over Democratic challenger Will Rollins to nearly 7,900 votes, exceeding 2.8 percentage points.
– California’s 13th District: 61% of the votes have been counted. As the vote count increases, Democratic challenger Adam Gray has been narrowing his initial gap with Republican Federal Representative John Duarte. Duarte is currently estimated to be leading Gray by 3,261 votes.
– California’s 45th District: Around 80% of the votes have been counted. Democratic challenger Derek Tran is currently trailing Republican Federal Representative Michelle Steel by 6,128 votes.
– California’s 47th District: Approximately 82% of the votes have been counted. Democrat Dave Min is leading Republican opponent Scott Baugh by 2,713 votes.
– California’s 27th District: About 84% of the votes have been counted. Democrat George Whitesides is currently leading Republican opponent Mike Garcia by 4,730 votes.
