World Cup is approaching: Five parks open all night for soccer matches

Amidst the World Cup football fever sweeping through New York, Mayor Mamdani has issued an order for designated soccer fields in each of the city’s five administrative districts to be open all night starting this week, continuing until July 18th, in order to meet the late-night and early-morning playing needs of “night owl” football enthusiasts.

This all-night opening plan covers soccer fields in five parks across New York City, namely Chelsea Waterside Field in Hudson River Park, Calvert Vaux Field near Bath Beach in Brooklyn, Astoria Park in Queens, Soundview Park in The Bronx, and Fairview Park in Staten Island.

According to the new city regulations, these park soccer fields will extend their hours beyond regular times, allowing residents to engage in late-night “pickup games” between 10:30 pm and 8:00 am the following day.

To ensure safety during the late hours, Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) officers will be stationed for patrols on site every night. Additionally, the site will be equipped with soccer goals, cones, and footballs, with service personnel from organizations like NYC Footy providing assistance on site.

The city administration reminds that individuals participating in the overnight games must be over 18 years old. Teams or individuals can directly register for reservations on the official website nycopenplay.com. In case of severe weather conditions, nighttime football activities will be suspended, but light rain will not be affected.
