Several media outlets have reported that Iran has submitted a new proposal to the United States through intermediaries. According to sources, Iran is willing to lift the blockade on the Hormuz Strait in exchange for the US lifting the blockade on Iranian ports and ending the conflict. However, the proposal suggests postponing discussions on the nuclear issue to a later stage of negotiations. The White House responded to this news on Monday.
Media outlets such as Axios, Associated Press, and CBS have all covered this development.
It is widely expected that the proposal delivered to the US by a Pakistani mediator may not be accepted by President Trump, as he has consistently maintained that any peace agreement must involve Iran abandoning its nuclear ambitions and completely halting its uranium enrichment program.
“We hold all the cards. If they want to talk, they’ll have to call us.” President Trump said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, April 26th.
Regarding Iran’s proposal to the US, the White House told CBS on Monday that the Trump administration “will not negotiate through the media.”
“These are sensitive diplomatic negotiations, and the US will not engage in negotiations through the media. As the President has stated, the US holds the cards and will only reach an agreement that prioritizes the interests of the American people, ensuring that Iran never possesses nuclear weapons.” Olivia Wales, Assistant Press Secretary at the White House, stated in a press release.
Sources informed CBS that Iran’s proposal does not include any provisions related to Iran’s nuclear program, leaving the nuclear issue for future negotiations.
President Trump has reiterated multiple times that the US will continue to enforce the maritime blockade on Iranian ports and vessels until the Iranian regime accepts the terms of a peace agreement put forward by the US, which includes surrendering Iran’s enriched uranium and abandoning its nuclear program.
