Chongqing’s various districts and counties continue to suffer from heavy rain, with 6 rivers experiencing flooding above the warning water levels.

According to the monitoring data from Chongqing Municipal Hydrological Monitoring Station from 8:00 on July 13 to 8:00 on July 14, heavy to torrential rain fell in the western and northeastern parts of Chongqing, with locally severe downpours. 28 districts and counties including Shapingba, Jiulongpo, Jiangbei, and Nan’an experienced heavy rain, with 13 districts and counties like Shapingba and Jiangjin facing severe downpours.

The largest daily rainfall was recorded in Kuangshan Village, Luohuang Town, Jiangjin District, at 181 millimeters. Due to the rainfall, 6 small and medium rivers in Chongqing, including Xinmin River in Fengjie County, Binan River in Jiangjin District, Yang River in Pengshui County, Daqingliu River in Rongchang District, Jiulong River in Yongchuan District, and Meijiang River in Bishan District exceeded the warning levels. Among them, Yang River in Pengshui County and Meijiang River in Bishan District exceeded the guaranteed water level flooding.

As of 8:00 on the 14th, Binan River in Jiangjin District, Yang River in Pengshui County, Daqingliu River in Rongchang District, and Meijiang River in Bishan District continue to surpass the warning levels, with Meijiang River in Bishan District still exceeding the guaranteed level. 35 small and medium rivers including Qiongjiang in Tongnan District and Luzixi in Jiangjin District experienced water rise processes ranging from 1 to 7 meters, with the highest water level not exceeding the warning level. The safety and well-being of local residents are a major concern.

The water authorities in Chongqing predict that some small and medium rivers in the western and northeastern parts of Chongqing may experience varying degrees of rising water levels in the next day. Due to the torrential rain, 31 trains at Chongqing Railway Station have been suspended on the 14th.

According to the news from the Chongqing Water Resources Bureau, from July 8 to 7 PM on July 13, the Yangtze River, Jialing River, Wujing River, and other major rivers experienced a rising water level process. The Jialing River at Ciqikou exceeded the warning water level, and both the Yangtze River and Jialing River experienced numbered floods. 40 small and medium rivers like Apeng River in Qianjiang District and Tangxi River in Yunyang County had 58 instances of flooding exceeding the warning level, with 18 rivers experiencing 23 instances of exceeding the guaranteed level, and the Daning River saw the first numbered flood of 2024. Additionally, 167 small and medium rivers including Nan River in Kaizhou District and Modaoxi in Wanzhou District experienced a water rise ranging from 1 to 10 meters.
