Carson: Trump Does Not Like Those Around Him to Be Yes-Men

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, who served in the Trump administration, revealed his views on abortion laws recently. When asked about his stance on abortion, Carson mentioned that former President Trump “doesn’t like everyone around him to be just ‘yes men’.”

In an interview on Sunday (May 19th) with CNN’s Jake Tapper on the “State of the Union” program, Carson was pressed about his conversations with Trump regarding abortion laws.

Carson replied, “President Trump likes to engage in productive discussions on certain matters and believes that he has done more in terms of saving the lives of unborn babies than any other president before, for that I give him a lot of credit.”

Support for States to Enact Abortion Laws

Tapper pointed out in the interview that Carson had previously expressed support for national legislation on abortion issues, but Carson stated that he agrees with Trump’s suggestion of allowing each state to determine abortion laws.

Last month, Trump stated that he believes abortion laws should be decided by individual states after the potential overturning of the Roe v. Wade case.

Carson said, “I completely agree with his proposal to have individual states decide on abortion issues. The discussion should involve legislators and the people, it should have been that way from the beginning.”

Potential Running Mate for Trump?

After ending his own presidential primary bid in 2016, Carson was the first to announce his support for Trump. Although initially speculated to potentially be Trump’s vice-presidential candidate, he was ultimately appointed as the head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Currently, Carson is actively supporting Trump for his third run for the presidency.

On Sunday, he mentioned that he has not discussed the possibility of becoming Trump’s running mate, but he is willing to debate Vice President Harris.

Carson stated, “I am certainly willing to discuss policies and differences with Harris. You know, our situation is quite unique, with two different administrations having different ideologies, people can compare the feelings of one side versus the other, I am willing to debate her or anyone.”

Carson further expressed that the former President “doesn’t like having a bunch of yes men around him.”
