“20,000 RMB Required for Onshore Wedding Gift” Inner Mongolia Government Recruitment Ad Sparks Controversy

In recent days, an advertisement displayed on a bus by a civil service exam coaching institution in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has sparked controversy online. The video circulating on the internet shows a bus with license plate “蒙A”, carrying a banner that reads “Come to Chongzheng to get ashore, requiring a dowry of 200,000 RMB”, which is highly noticeable. The location of the video release is indicated to be in Hohhot City.

According to local netizens’ comments on the video, “I finished the exam on the 28th morning and walked out of the school gate! There were two large buses parked on both sides of the gate, with several tables set up in front of the buses. The group of people stood on the tables holding loudspeakers shouting ‘Come to Chongzheng to get ashore, requiring a dowry of two hundred thousand’. At that time, I felt like they were crazy.”

Other netizens also expressed, “I heard them shouting when I came out after the exam that day, and I felt uncomfortable… it sounded very distasteful.” “It was really vulgar, I saw it right after coming out of the exam room that day.”

Netizens criticized, “I can’t imagine what kind of civil servants such a public exam institution can produce. Taking the civil service exam is to serve the people, not to elevate one’s own value!” “If this information is true, then this institution is no longer necessary, because it has completely rotted and deteriorated… I really don’t understand how these leaders at all levels managed to climb up?” “Such perspectives are really disgusting, always thinking about how to insult and objectify women, especially coming from an educational institution.”

On December 30th, the Saihan District Market Supervision Bureau of Hohhot City announced that they have noted the inappropriate content related to marketing advertisements by “Chongzheng Education” as reflected on online platforms and have ordered the institution to immediately terminate their marketing activities and launched an investigation.
