Man shot dead in Chicago’s Edgewater

According to a report from ABC, the Chicago police are investigating a fatal shooting incident in the northern district of the city.

The shooting occurred around 4 a.m. on Saturday, December 27th, at the 5100 block of N. Sheridan Road in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago.

Authorities received a report of a shooting in the area and upon arrival at the scene, they found the victim, a 23-year-old male, lying outdoors with a gunshot wound to the head. The police confirmed his death at the scene.

An eyewitness informed the police that they saw a vehicle fleeing the scene of the shooting.

Currently, no suspects have been detained, and the Chicago police are actively investigating the incident.

In terms of overall crime rates and violent crime rates in American cities, Chicago ranks higher than the national average. According to data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 2024, the murder rate in Chicago is 17.5 per 100,000 people. Some of the cities with higher rates include Detroit, Michigan (31.2 cases), Memphis, Tennessee (40.6 cases), and Cleveland, Ohio (30 cases).
