In recent years, mainland Chinese actress Tang Wei, who has won multiple film awards in South Korea, posted a series of selfies on social media on May 15, showing herself taking a bus and subway in Hangzhou, China, with the caption “Heading home.” Netizens praised her for being down-to-earth and without airs, describing her as the “people’s queen.”
In the photos, Tang Wei wore a black hat and a mask, appearing covered up but still exuding elegance. Her bare face revealed good skin condition. She chose to sit by the bus door for the photo, and after getting off the bus, she took off her mask to take a picture with a bus stop sign. Despite only showing half of her face, the upward curve of her mouth displayed a happy mood.
Later, Tang Wei arrived at a subway station, excitedly taking a photo with the subway station sign and pointing her finger at the subway sign. Possibly due to the large crowd, Tang Wei put her mask back on, perhaps trying not to be recognized. As she entered the station, passersby unintentionally entered the frame. Tang Wei considerately used stickers to cover them, avoiding infringing on their portrait rights.
After boarding the subway, Tang Wei didn’t sit down but stood at the door to take a photo of the subway route. Local netizens quickly confirmed that she was on Route 19. Seeing her down-to-earth appearance, some netizens found it surreal.
Some netizens remarked that whether in China or abroad, whenever Tang Wei is spotted by passersby, she always appears in a low-key manner. Without security guards, without heavy makeup, her simple and unadorned appearance makes it hard for people to associate her with an internationally renowned star. Previously, when netizens saw photos of Tang Wei taking the subway in South Korea, they also praised her for being “real, natural,” and “down-to-earth.”
At 45 years old this year, Tang Wei met South Korean director Kim Tae-young in 2011. The couple got married in 2014 and had a daughter in August 2016, living happily as a family of three. Tang Wei, mainly residing in South Korea after marriage, has won several Best Actress titles since 2022 for her performance in the film “A Decision to Break Up,” directed by South Korean director Park Chan-wook. She became the first non-Korean to win the Blue Dragon Award for Best Actress in history. Last year, she won the Blue Dragon Award for “Popular Actor” for the film “Wonderland,” which she co-starred in with her husband. During interviews, she fluently switched between Korean, English, and Chinese, attracting much attention.
Recently, there were reports from mainland media that Tang Wei is expected to collaborate with top mainland actor Wang Yibo on a new film, “Human Fish.” The news became a hot topic on Weibo, with many fans finding the pairing fresh. However, the related news has yet to be confirmed.
