On Wednesday, May 14, during the visit of President Trump to Qatar, Qatar Airways, the national airline of Qatar, signed a significant agreement with American Boeing Company to purchase a large number of Boeing aircraft. President Trump stated that the deal is valued at $200 billion, including 160 Boeing aircraft.
Trump and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, witnessed the signing ceremony between Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg and Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al Meer in Doha.
Trump mentioned that Ortberg told him during the signing ceremony that “this is the largest aircraft order in the history of Boeing, which is great.”
“The total value exceeds $200 billion, 160 aircraft, this is fantastic. Kelly, this is a record, congratulations to Boeing,” President Trump said.
Trump and the Emir also witnessed the signing of an agreement between Qatari Defense Minister Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and U.S. Defense Secretary Hagelses.
The Emir expressed, “Of course, after signing these documents, the relationship between Qatar and the United States will step up to a new level. I just want to thank Mr. President again for this historic visit. Very much appreciated.”
Later on Wednesday, Trump will attend a state banquet held at Lusail Palace in Doha, concluding his day’s itinerary.
President Trump’s visit to the Middle East not only received a warm welcome from the hosts but also secured a series of investments and orders. Qatar was the second stop of Trump’s visit. During his first stop in Saudi Arabia, he signed a series of commercial agreements, including Saudi Arabia committing to invest $600 billion in the United States, and the United States selling $142 billion worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia.
