On May 13, a man named Liu Yongqi from Shanxi was executed by firing squad for raping and killing an 88-year-old woman. The brutal nature of his actions has sparked outrage across the internet.
According to a notice released by the Xinzhou Intermediate People’s Court in Shanxi on May 13, the defendant Liu Yongqi, born in 1974, is a resident of Hequ County.
On the evening of September 24, 2022, Liu Yongqi, under the influence of alcohol, forcibly entered the home of Liang, an 88-year-old woman living alone in a village in Hequ County. He violently raped her and then used his hands to tear apart her perineum and repeatedly pulled out and tore her intestinal tract.
Liang ultimately died from multiple injuries including fractured ribs, torn perineum, multiple fractures and absences of intestinal tract in the pelvic and abdominal cavity, ruptured uterus, and acute traumatic exsanguination.
After being arrested, Liu Yongqi was sentenced to death by the Xinzhou Intermediate People’s Court for the crimes of rape and intentional homicide in the first instance.
Following the verdict, Liu Yongqi did not appeal. The Shanxi Higher People’s Court rejected his appeal in the second instance, and after approval from the Supreme Court, he was executed by firing squad on May 13, 2025.
On May 14, a reporter from Hongxing News contacted the criminal trial chamber of the Xinzhou Intermediate People’s Court in Shanxi regarding this case. The staff confirmed the authenticity of the notice issued by the Xinzhou Intermediate People’s Court. The criminal Liu has been executed.
