An Hui Fu Yang 54-year-old man was visiting Fu Yang City Chinese Medicine Hospital when he began to feel uncomfortable during the intravenous drip, leading to a state of confusion. During the rescue process, the man experienced conditions such as heart and respiratory arrest. He was transferred to another hospital, already in a deep coma with no detectable heartbeat or breathing. Eventually, the man passed away.
News from Jiemu on May 7 reported that Mr. Li from Fu Yang, An Hui, stated on the 6th that on the 4th, around 3 p.m., his 54-year-old father went to Fu Yang City Chinese Medicine Hospital due to symptoms of dizziness and low blood pressure. After various examinations, around 6 p.m., medical staff started the intravenous drip. As soon as the drip started, his father felt pain and itching in his hand, which later spread throughout his body, accompanied by severe abdominal pain and shock… Ultimately, the rescue efforts were unsuccessful, leading to his death.
Mr. Li provided a medical record from Fu Yang City Chinese Medicine Hospital which indicated: “Current diagnosis of the patient: 1. Transient ischemic attack. 2. Hypertension. 3. To be further investigated for blindness?”
The rescue record from Fu Yang City Chinese Medicine Hospital showed that at 5:58 p.m, the patient began to receive injections of Shiwujia injection. After successful piercing, pain occurred at the site of the drip, the drip rate was immediately reduced, and the on-duty doctor was informed. At around 6 p.m., upon reaching the patient’s bedside, the patient complained of numbness around the mouth, and the fluid supplementation was immediately stopped… At 6:21 p.m, the patient became confused, with the disappearance of the carotid artery pulse…
Around 7:20 p.m. on the 4th, Mr. Li’s father was transferred to Fu Yang City People’s Hospital for emergency treatment. The emergency medical record from this hospital indicated, “Patient suffered from hypotension after drinking in the afternoon. After visiting Fu Yang City Chinese Medicine Hospital, during the rescue process, the patient’s heartbeat and breathing stopped, an endotracheal tube was inserted, assisted breathing by a ventilator, external cardiac compressions, repetitive intravenous adrenaline push, and then transferred to our hospital.”
The medical record from Fu Yang City People’s Hospital also noted, “The patient arrived in a deep coma, with undetectable breathing and heartbeat, an endotracheal intubation in place, assisted breathing by ventilator, dilated pupils, loss of light reflex, loss of carotid artery pulse, flatline on electrocardiogram, and no response to stimulation of limbs.”
According to a report by Beijing News, Mr. Li provided a resident death medical certificate (presumptive) issued by the emergency department of Fu Yang City People’s Hospital, showing that his father passed away at 8:02 p.m. on May 4, due to sudden cessation of breathing and heartbeat.
Mr. Li provided documentation of the intravenous medications from Fu Yang City Chinese Medicine Hospital, which were 200 ml of sodium chloride injection and 100 ml of Shiwujia injection.
The report mentioned that upon investigation, Shiwujia injection is used for transient ischemic attacks, cerebral arteriosclerosis, cerebral thrombosis, cerebral embolism caused by liver and kidney deficiency, as well as for angina pectoris, angina pectoris combined with neurasthenia and menopausal syndrome.
Mr. Li mentioned that the medical staff did not inquire about allergy history before the intravenous drip, even though he proactively mentioned his father’s allergy to coptis, and no allergy test was conducted before the drip. Mr. Li requested sealing of the medical records for autopsy.
On the afternoon of the 6th, Mr. Li mentioned that the relevant department had performed an autopsy on his father, and the report was not yet available.
Personnel from the Fu Yang Health Committee explained that the committee is handling this matter.
Fu Yang City Chinese Medicine Hospital stated that they have initiated an investigation and are conducting an autopsy, with the specific cause of death awaiting further investigation.
