A year after being removed from office, Yang Zixing, former party member and vice governor of Gansu Province, has been officially charged.
According to a report released by the Communist Party of China’s Supreme Procuratorate on May 6, Yang Zixing, the former party member and vice governor of the Gansu Provincial Government, has recently been charged.
Yang Zixing is accused of using his position as a member of the party and vice governor of the Gansu Provincial Government to seek benefits for others, illegally accepting property from others, with an especially large amount involved. After leaving office, he continued to use his former authority and status to influence the actions of other government officials from different countries to seek improper gains for others, illegally accepting a significant amount of property.
At the age of 65, Yang Zixing served for a long time in Gansu Province, holding positions such as Mayor of Dingxi City, Secretary of the Dingxi City Committee, and Executive Deputy Minister of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee Organization Department (equivalent to the level of director-general). He became the Vice Governor of Gansu Province in June 2015, and he stepped down in January 2018.
On June 12, 2024, Yang Zixing was officially announced to be under investigation and was later expelled from the party in December of the same year.
According to a previous report by the Communist Party of China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, Yang Zixing engaged in activities such as political cliques, accepting banquets and travel arrangements with public funds, seeking benefits and receiving bribes for others in the selection and appointment of cadres, receiving gifts and money for personal gain, participating in profit-making activities, intervening in market economic activities, and using his position to benefit others in project contracting, business operations, job promotions, etc., while illegally accepting a large amount of money.
It is worth mentioning that Yang Zixing was once subordinate to the “tiger” Tang Renjian. During Yang Zixing’s tenure as Vice Governor of Gansu Province, Tang Renjian served as Acting Governor and Governor of Gansu Province. A month before Yang Zixing was officially investigated, on May 18, 2024, Tang Renjian was also under investigation during his tenure.
