On April 20, 2025, Gong Lin, the 46-year-old Deputy Dean of the Motorcycle College of Beijing Institute of Technology, was anonymously reported to have had a sexual relationship with a male student, leading to the victim suffering from moderate depression. Gong Lin was also accused of favoritism and misappropriation of public funds during the retention period, sparking discussions among netizens. Beijing Institute of Technology issued a notice on April 20 stating that Gong’s misconduct was true, and she had been expelled from the Party and had her employment relationship terminated.
On the evening of April 19, 2023 postgraduate student, Chang Xuqiang, of the Motorcycle College of Beijing Institute of Technology, posted a video and a lengthy article on the Chinese video platform “bilibili,” accusing Gong Lin, the Deputy Dean of the Motorcycle College of Beijing Institute of Technology, General Manager of Beijing Institute of Technology Assets Co., Ltd., professor, and Ph.D. supervisor, of harassing and having a sexual relationship with him from November 2022 to January 2024, causing him to suffer from moderate depression and mild anxiety.
Chang Xuqiang explained that he met Gong Lin during his junior year (2022) in an undergraduate course where she was the teacher. Under Gong Lin’s persuasion, Chang also retained his position to enter Gong Lin’s laboratory. After continuous testing by Gong Lin, the two eventually developed a relationship. Chang also mentioned that Gong Lin took him on business trips and they had relations in Gong Lin’s office.
Chang Xuqiang suffered from depression but could not break free from Gong Lin’s grasp. Therefore, he collected evidence related to Gong Lin’s affairs with male students, misuse of funds, and leakage of exam questions, all of which he made public on April 19. He also revealed that Gong Lin is currently married and has two children.
The long article and video by Chang Xuqiang quickly sparked widespread discussions online.
On the morning of April 20, Beijing Institute of Technology issued a notification stating that the school was investigating Gong Lin’s ethical misconduct and confirmed that the content spoken by Chang Xuqiang was basically true after preliminary verification. Gong Lin’s duties were temporarily suspended, and further action against Gong Lin’s issues will be taken by the institute.
Public information shows that Gong Lin, aged 46, is a member of the Communist Party of China, with a Ph.D., professor, and Ph.D. supervisor. After obtaining a doctoral degree in Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation from Beijing Institute of Technology in March 2006, she remained at the university to teach. From 2009 to 2011, she was on secondment at the Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and from 2013 to 2014, she was a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California in the United States.
