Ukrainian forces have been advancing into Kursk for the past two weeks, and they have already taken control of at least 1250 square kilometers of Russian territory, with plans to expand further. The Ukrainian Air Force used precision ammunition to destroy the 3rd bridge over the Seim River in Kursk. Russian reports indicate that after these three bridges were bombed, the area south of the Seim River could be isolated, potentially leading to around 2500 Russian troops being surrounded. The Seim River is a crucial river in the southern part of Kursk Oblast, located approximately 15 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Russian military engineers quickly constructed two pontoon bridges, one east of Zvani village and the other east of Glushkovo, but both bridges came under attack by Ukrainian forces, with one already destroyed. Compared to steel and concrete bridges, pontoon bridges not only have limited transport capacity but are also very vulnerable. Currently, the most effective tools for the Russian forces to cross the Seim River are boats and amphibious armored vehicles, but their carrying capacity is worse than that of pontoon bridges. There is no news yet confirming the withdrawal of the 2500 Russian troops south of the Seim River, even though they are at risk of being surrounded by Ukrainian forces.

The capture of Suhza by Ukrainian forces in Kursk has already had important effects, disrupting Russia’s railway transportation system and causing a significant number of trains to become stuck in Lygovo. The importance of Lygovo in the Russian railway network is equivalent to that of Zhengzhou in China, with many trains now stranded there and unable to move for days. On one hand, over 1000 defenders in Lygovo are surrounded, while on the other hand, Russian forces are at a loss due to the paralysis of the railway transportation lines.
