Columbia University student from Palestine resumes camping within 24 hours after being cleared from site.

On Friday morning, the anti-Israel camp reappeared on the campus of Columbia University in New York where protesting students were arrested by the police and tents were cleared away. According to independent reporters and local television stations, dozens of students draped in blankets and holding Palestinian flags sat on the South Lawn of Morningside Heights campus. Police officers in bulletproof vests were still stationed both inside and outside the campus.

On television, a pro-Palestinian student stated, “We are not against Jewish people, we are against the Israeli government.” However, another student wearing a black and white Palestinian keffiyeh violently attacked his Jewish classmate.

The video on television showed scattered tents, building materials, and other items on the protest lawn. The tents first appeared on Wednesday, when the university president was questioned by lawmakers on Capitol Hill about campus anti-Semitism. The protesting students demanded a ceasefire in Gaza and the university divestment from Israel.

On Thursday, the Columbia University president requested the New York City Police Department to deploy officers to clear the campus. Ultimately, the police arrested 108 people and issued summonses to students for “unlawful entry.”
