Near the Yubi City ruins in Ji Shan County, Yuncheng, Shanxi, a section of road collapsed, unexpectedly uncovering a long-buried history. This topic has sparked widespread discussion and surged to the top of recent hot searches.
According to a report by the Xinjing News on July 25, a large number of white bones were discovered at the collapsed section of the road near the Yubi City ruins in Ji Shan County, Yuncheng.
Staff from the Ji Shan County Cultural Relics Protection Center stated that the white bones are remnants of the Battle of Yubi City, visible to tourists on the cliff.
In a report by The Paper on the 25th of July, the Yubi City ruins are a nationally protected site in Ji Shan County. In December 2024, a collapse occurred in the northeast corner of the ruins, covering an area of approximately 80 square meters. On January 3, 2025, after on-site expert inspections, the main cause of the collapse was determined to be the steep cliffs and long-term erosion by wind and rain.
The exposed white bones belong to the casualties of the Battle of Yubi City, separated by hundreds of meters from the collapse area. In 2025, a local application for an archaeological survey and exploration project at the Yubi City ruins was submitted and implemented in 2026. In July 2026, a project plan for the conservation and repair of the Yubi City ruins was submitted for approval.
The Yubi City ruins are located on the Fenyang Second Terrace of Baijiazhuang Village and Jun’an Village in Taiyang Township, Ji Shan County, and were built in the fourth year of the Western Wei Dynasty (538 AD). The site currently contains remnants of the southern city wall, a mass grave, beacon towers, and tunnels. The Yubi City ruins hold significant importance for the study of the history of the Northern Dynasties, military strategy, and ancient warfare.
