In addition to pickup trucks, motorcycles are one of the high-demand vehicles on the front line in Ukraine. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense officially introduced the “MUL.E all-wheel-drive electric motorcycle” as military equipment on Thursday, July 23, adding a “new warhorse” to the front lines.
This new motorcycle not only features silent operation, low detection characteristics, all-terrain off-road capabilities, strong driving power, and reduced triggering of landmines but also comes with a detachable generator. It can instantly charge soldiers’ mobile phones, communication devices, and FPV drones, enhancing the unit’s ability to sustain combat operations.
Developed by a Ukrainian defense industry company based on frontline demands, the “MUL.E all-wheel-drive electric motorcycle” is mainly used to transport armed personnel, small supplies, and wounded individuals, and is suitable for driving on various road surfaces and off-road environments.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense stated that enhancing frontline mobility not only helps units complete missions faster but also increases soldiers’ survival chances. These motorcycles are particularly suitable for use in environments where logistics are limited, there are no roads, and small units are conducting operations.
In 2026, the Defense Procurement Bureau, DOT, signed a contract with manufacturers to purchase 1,500 motorcycles, a threefold increase from the previous year. This bidding process attracted six manufacturers, ultimately lowering the procurement price and saving the Ukrainian treasury nearly 12 million hryvnias (UAH), approximately 290,000 USD.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense emphasized that the MUL.E offers several design features not found in traditional military fuel motorcycles and can perform various tasks in high-intensity combat environments. Department tests have shown that the vehicle’s performance meets military requirements and can be deployed for battlefield use.
The ten key designs of the MUL.E include: 2×2 all-wheel drive; dual independent electric motors enhancing battlefield survivability; low visibility body and silent driving capability; high-performance electric motors; rapid deployment and retrieval capabilities; long autonomous endurance; extended operational range; special chassis (low ground pressure design) to reduce landmine triggering risk; extremely high driving speed; and the ability to tow trailers loaded with supplies.
The wide off-road tires and all-wheel-drive system of the new motorcycle allow it to operate in harsh terrains such as mud, eroded surfaces, sand, deep snow, and swamps. Additionally, its ground pressure is equivalent to that of an infantryman’s boot, making it less prone to triggering most anti-vehicle mines.
When fully charged, the MUL.E can cover nearly 100 kilometers on a single charge. Even if the battery is depleted, it won’t come to a complete halt like other electric vehicles. The vehicle frame is equipped with a detachable gasoline generator, which can charge the standard battery of the vehicle and serve as an independent power source to recharge mobile phones, communication devices, FPV drones, and provide power to frontline combat units.
