Recently, in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, a delivery truck from a household appliance brand was speeding within a residential area and collided with a 4-year-old child who was playing. The child’s grandmother tried to block the truck but was also hit and tragically passed away despite rescue efforts being made.
According to a report by Jiangsu News Radio, the incident occurred on the 16th of this month. On the 28th, the father of the child, whose nickname is Niu Niu, stated that despite days of efforts by the hospital to save them, the grandmother died, while Niu Niu has just been moved from the intensive care unit to a regular ward, still facing the risk of intracranial infection. In addition, Niu Niu suffers from a severe perforation in the left eardrum, resulting in temporary complete hearing loss.
The father of Niu Niu mentioned that the medical expenses for both the elderly woman and the child have already exceeded 200,000 Chinese yuan. However, just days after the accident, the person in charge of the company to which the driver responsible for the accident belonged to suddenly passed away due to illness, and the issue of compensation has yet to be resolved.
It was reported that a sign at the entrance of the residential area indicated a speed limit of 5 kilometers per hour for vehicles within the area, while the truck involved in the accident was traveling at a speed of 41-43 kilometers per hour.
Online users criticized the situation, saying, “At this speed… even holding hands wouldn’t have prevented the tragedy.”
Currently, the police have filed a case, but the determination of responsibility for the accident is still pending.
