In recent days, a woman in Foshan, Guangdong Province, accidentally threw away nearly 100,000 worth of gold jewelry at home, mistaking it for trash. The garbage has been cleared and sent to an incineration plant for disposal, with little hope of recovery.
According to mainland media reports, the incident occurred around 7 a.m. that day when Ms. Chen placed a bag containing about 100 grams of gold jewelry on the coffee table at home. Her daughter, mistaking it for rubbish, casually tossed it into the community garbage bin. It wasn’t until around 8 p.m. that evening when Ms. Chen prepared to sort the jewelry that she discovered the entire bag of gold was missing, approximately 13 hours later.
The bag of jewelry contained items such as an 80-gram men’s gold necklace, as well as several women’s necklaces, rings, earrings, and small gold pendants, totaling nearly 100,000 yuan in value.
Upon discovering the missing gold, Ms. Chen and her family immediately went to the garbage disposal area to search, but the trash bin had already been emptied. After inquiring with the property management, they were informed that the garbage had been taken away.
Subsequently, the media contacted the local sanitation company to inquire about the situation, and they indicated that the related garbage had been sent to the incineration plant for disposal on the afternoon of February 27, with further investigation still pending.
The whereabouts of the jewelry are currently unknown, and the possibility of recovery remains uncertain.
Previously, a similar incident occurred in Shanghai, where a woman mistakenly threw away old clothes containing gold jewelry and only realized the loss half a month later. After reviewing public surveillance footage, the jewelry was eventually found in the possession of a scavenging elderly person. The elderly individual initially thought it was worthless old items but returned the jewelry upon learning the truth.
