The Boston Police Department in the United States confirmed that a shooting incident occurred at the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMASS Boston) campus in Massachusetts on Thursday afternoon (September 11th). Police quickly dispatched a large number of officers to the campus.
At 3:45 p.m. Eastern Time, a shooting was reported near 240 Morrissey Boulevard in the Dorchester campus of Boston.
Video footage aired by local TV station Sky 5 showed students and school staff running from a building to a nearby parking lot, with one officer holding a rifle and a group of police officers rushing to the scene.
According to multiple alerts issued by the school, the shooting incident took place inside or near the East Residence Hall, prompting concerns of a “public safety threat” and advising everyone to avoid that area and the campus center.
The UMASS Boston campus police and the Boston city police are currently en route to the scene. It is still unclear whether anyone was injured in the incident.
