Independence Day Fireworks Show Shines Bright in Hudson River Night Sky

On July 4th, the United States celebrated its 248th Independence Day, commemorating the founding principles of “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” The U.S. has embraced immigrants and wisdom from all over the world, evolving into a global economic powerhouse and a beacon of freedom and democracy.

To mark this grand occasion, Macy’s hosted a mesmerizing fireworks display over the Hudson River, featuring over 60,000 fireworks in more than 30 colors, showcasing kaleidoscopic patterns like red-blue alternation, cross circles, twinkling comets, and cascading waterfalls. Accompanied by 25 minutes of custom music, the starlit night sky was illuminated in a spectacular display that left spectators in awe.

On the Manhattan side of the Hudson River in the afternoon, crowds eagerly awaited the fireworks show. Many had arrived early to witness the splendor of Macy’s fireworks display, anticipating the most exciting and heart-pounding moment of the day.

In the afternoon of the 4th, at the entrance of 29th Street and 11th Avenue in Manhattan, authorities had already set up barricades and caution tape as people braved the scorching heat to line up for entry.

Mrs. Lin and her husband, who had rushed from Georgia, arrived at the entrance to wait before 3 p.m. Mrs. Lin expressed that while there were also celebrations locally, the events in New York were more worth watching. This was their third visit to New York, and the first time during their trip to witness the fireworks show. Concerned about the crowd and traffic congestion, they had done their research, pointing to the nearby streets, saying, “My husband checked in advance, and our accommodation is very close by.”

Ms. Fang also arrived early, opting to wait closer to the entrance since it was still before the 6 p.m. entry time. Despite her husband finding it too hot and suggesting she rest in a cooler place, she insisted on sitting there, hoping to secure an optimal viewing angle when entering.

Anthony, a native New Yorker of Italian descent, who usually resides in Manhattan, finally had the opportunity to witness the fireworks display in person today, as he was busy with business commitments. He joined the waiting line shortly before four o’clock.

Ash and friends traveled from Maryland to vacation in New York, excited for their first experience of the New York fireworks display, eagerly anticipating this thrilling moment.

On this unique day, people not only watched fireworks, enjoyed hot dogs and barbecue, participated in parades, and went out to play but also honored the traditions of the American founding. The United States is a country created by a diverse group of immigrants, a true immigrant haven.

In light of this, Yu Jinshan, leader of the New York Democratic Party’s 65th Assembly District, who has long served the community and written “Comprehensive Guide to American Immigration,” stated that historically, many ethnic groups, except for some black communities, sought refuge from persecution and willingly immigrated to the US. Many Chinese people also yearn for the freedom and democracy of American life, voluntarily choosing to come to the US and become American citizens. Therefore, this powerful nation also provides an opportunity for everyone to achieve their American dreams.

He mentioned that the US is a country continuously welcoming new immigrants, bringing their wisdom and abilities, regardless of their origins, status, or circumstances. In America, they have a fresh start, a chance to showcase their talents anew, contributing to the country’s advancement and progress.

“New immigrants are primarily driven by the desire to establish their own families, businesses, and dreams in America,” Yu Jinshan emphasized. “This is the most important thing, as their drive keeps the US as the world’s leading nation. Immigrants from around the world have the motivation to rebuild their homes in the US, driving constant renewal and progress in America.”
