“Stranger Things” is an American science fiction horror series that premiered on Netflix in July 2016. In Arizona, USA, a man has become a super fan of the show, collecting 2,301 pieces of memorabilia related to the series, setting a new Guinness World Record.
According to the Guinness World Records website, on February 6, 2025, “Stranger Things” was selected by the organization as “the TV show you should watch.” It’s no wonder that Joey Avalos, the man from Arizona, loves this series so much, leading him to amass 2,301 pieces of merchandise from the show, earning him the title of the person with the most “Stranger Things” memorabilia collection in the world.
Avalos said, “I started collecting memorabilia right after the series aired, but at that time, there weren’t many items available. I was already a collector of Funko Pop! figures, which made it the easiest way for me to get my hands on ‘Stranger Things’ collectibles.”
He explained, “Similar to the ‘Upside Down’ in the series, my collection has spread throughout every corner of my house and keeps growing even to this day.”
When he first watched “Stranger Things,” he immediately fell in love with the nostalgic feel of being transported back to the 1980s. Being a child of the ’80s himself, he appreciates the show’s references to classic films like “The Goonies” and “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” He loves everything about the series and the atmosphere of that era.
Avalos mentioned that he owns all printed copies of the “Stranger Things” comic books, with one of the rarest issues featuring the signature of actress Millie Bobby Brown, who stars in the series.
“I have been fortunate to acquire many dream items, but as a collector and artist, I enjoy painting portraits of the actors and then getting them signed at comic conventions – it’s one of my favorite things to do. One-of-a-kind, there’s only one like it in the world,” he said.
