On February 5, 2026, Savannah Guthrie, the host of NBC’s “Today Show,” along with her siblings, made a heartfelt plea to potential kidnappers in a video released on Wednesday evening, February 4th. They expressed their willingness to negotiate but emphasized the need for concrete evidence proving that their mother, Nancy Guthrie, is still alive.
In the emotional video, Savannah, accompanied by her sister Annie and brother Camron, stated, “We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where sound and images can be easily manipulated.”
Given the advancements in deepfake technology, Savannah emphasized the family’s position, stating, “We need to know for certain that she is alive and indeed in your custody.”
Describing their mother as kind, faithful, loyal, loving, determined, and vibrant, Savannah highlighted Nancy’s positive attributes and the strong bond she shares with her grandchildren.
Addressing reports of ransom letters circulating in the media, Savannah urged the perpetrators to reach out and assured them that the family is doing everything possible to save their loved one.
The case has now been elevated to the federal level, with President Trump personally calling Savannah to offer his condolences. He subsequently directed federal law enforcement agencies to assist in the search and mobilize all available resources to ensure Nancy’s safe return home.
Several U.S. media outlets, including KOLD News and TMZ, reported receiving ransom letters containing specific details about Nancy’s residence and the clothing she was wearing on the night of her disappearance. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed the receipt of such a letter.
The Sheriff’s Office posted on social media that they are taking reports of possible ransom notes very seriously and are coordinating with the FBI to follow up on all leads and information received.
The family and authorities are most concerned about Nancy’s health condition, as the 84-year-old suffers from heart disease and is physically weak. Without her daily medication, her life is at risk.
In her video statement, Savannah expressed her concerns, saying, “Her health and her heart are fragile. She has been in pain for a long time. Without her medication, she needs it to survive and relieve her suffering.”
Despite the urgency of the situation, Sheriff Nanos remains hopeful, believing that Nancy is still alive and they are determined to save her.
Investigators have collected DNA samples for testing and obtained some surveillance footage, but they have yet to identify any specific suspects.
The rugged terrain and dense vegetation surrounding the residential area in Catalina Foothills where the incident occurred are hindering search efforts, adding to the difficulty of the rescue operation.
The case has garnered nationwide attention, with a New York church offering a $25,000 reward.
Nancy went missing after having dinner with her family at home on the evening of January 31st and was only discovered missing the next day when she did not show up for a church event.
To deal with this crisis, Savannah has confirmed that she will be absent from broadcasting the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
