On November 18, 2025, shocking corruption in the Chinese Communist Party officials continues to emerge, with corrupt officials embezzling billions of yuan. On that day, former Vice Governor of Yunnan Province, Li Shisong, was sentenced in a bribery case, accused of accepting over 100 million yuan in bribes over 18 years, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Li Shisong was investigated while in office in June of the previous year.
In the first-instance verdict on November 18, at the Guiyang Intermediate People’s Court in Guizhou Province, Yunnan Province’s former Standing Committee member and former Vice Governor of the provincial government, Li Shisong, was publicly sentenced in a bribery case. Li Shisong was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined 5 million yuan.
The court stated that from August 2005 to March 2024, Li Shisong took advantage of his positions as Deputy Director and Director of the Secretariat of the Yunnan Provincial Government Office, Deputy Secretary-General of the Provincial Government Office, Deputy Governor of Honghe Prefecture in Yunnan, Director of the Yunnan Provincial Industrial and Information Technology Commission, Director of the Yunnan Provincial Industrial and Information Technology Department, Mayor of Qujing City, and Secretary of the Qujing Municipal Party Committee, providing assistance to relevant units and individuals in business operations, project contracting, and promotion, directly or through others receiving property exceeding a total value of 100.25 million yuan.
In June 2024, Li Shisong was investigated while in office, becoming the 36th senior official to fall from power last year, and the third high-ranking official in Yunnan to fall from grace since the 20th Party Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. In mid-December of the same year, Li Shisong was expelled from the Party and transferred to judicial authorities, with his status as a delegate to the 20th Party Congress and the 11th Party Congress of Yunnan Province terminated. Li Shisong was arrested on January 3rd this year, and the first-instance trial took place on August 15th.
Public information indicates that Li Shisong was born in February 1969 in Yunlong County, Yunnan Province. He has served in various positions in Yunnan, including Deputy Mayor and Mayor of Qujing City in Yunnan, Standing Committee member of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, Executive Vice Governor of the provincial government, and Deputy Secretary of the Party group.
