Jinan Deputy Mayor Xie Kun Dismissed

Vice Mayor Xie Kun of Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province in mainland China, was officially taken down today (2nd).

According to an announcement on March 2nd by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the Communist Party of China, Xie Kun, the Vice Mayor of Jinan City, Shandong Province, is suspected of “serious violations of discipline and law” and is currently undergoing review and investigation.

Public records show that Xie Kun is 53 years old this year and has long worked in Jinan. He has held positions such as Director of the Development Planning Office of the Development and Reform Commission of Jinan City; member and Deputy Director of the Party Group of the Development and Reform Commission of Jinan City; District Chief of the People’s Government of Jinan City Central District; Director of the Development and Reform Commission of Jinan City; and Director of the Mobilization Office of National Defense of Jinan City, among others. He currently serves as a member of the Party Group of the Jinan City Government, Vice Mayor, and Director of the Office for the Comprehensive Test Zone Construction of the New and Old Kinetic Energy Conversion in the city.

Information on the official website of the Jinan City Government shows that in his role as Vice Mayor, Xie Kun is responsible for areas such as science and technology, industry and information technology, human resources and social security, market supervision, administrative approval services, and the development of the private economy. This involves units such as the Tobacco Monopoly Bureau, power company, China Unicom, China Telecom, China Mobile, and other units with considerable profits.

The downfall of Xie Kun, a well-established figure in governing roles within Jinan City, has brought shock and speculation amongst the local population. The accusations of serious misconduct against him are yet to be fully unveiled, leaving room for debate and uncertainty regarding the future leadership of Jinan City.
