The Han Guang 41 Exercise, which lasted for 10 days and 9 nights, concluded on July 18th. This was the longest Han Guang exercise in Taiwan’s history, and also the closest to real combat and the most successful exercise.
In the past, Han Guang exercises mostly focused on gathering the superior forces and firepower of the three services to demonstrate anti-landing capabilities. However, compared to the continuously evolving actual combat scenarios, Taiwan’s firepower demonstrations are becoming less realistic in terms of actual combat.
During the Han Guang 41 exercise, a new strategic thinking was verified, shifting from “defeating enemies on the beach” to “deep defense and long-lasting combat”. In addition to the traditional joint anti-landing operations and coastal and beachfront battles, elements such as disturbance and harassment in the gray zone, emergency combat phases, as well as deep defense and long-lasting combat phases were included. The exercise followed the principle of no script and realism to validate the defense operations of the Taiwanese military.
Unfortunately, the Han Guang exercise did not focus much on drone warfare and anti-drone operations, which are areas that the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense and the military must pay attention to and strengthen in the future.
