As Thanksgiving approaches, the annual Presidential Turkey Pardon ceremony in the United States is also set to take place next week. During the event, President Trump will pardon two turkeys, saving them from becoming part of the holiday feast. Currently, the First Lady’s office has opened public voting on social media to choose the final names from four festive candidate names, and the voting will end at noon this Friday (November 21st).
The Presidential Turkey Pardon ceremony is an annual Thanksgiving tradition. As per custom, the President will select two turkeys from an American farm and grant them official pardon, sparing them from being a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Although the White House has not set a specific date, the event usually takes place a few days before Thanksgiving next Thursday (November 27th).
Prior to this, the First Lady’s office invited the public to participate in the naming process of these two lucky turkeys by voting through their social media account @FirstLadyOffice.
Turkey names typically carry holiday or American themes. In this voting round, the public will choose the ultimate winner from the following four sets of names:
– Sugar and Spice
– Pumpkin and Pie
– Gobble and Waddle
– Acorn and Squash
As of Thursday morning, nearly 40,000 people have participated in the voting. Currently, Gobble and Waddle is temporarily in the lead with 40.5% of the votes, followed by Acorn and Squash at 28%.
Voting Deadline: November 21st, 12:00 PM Eastern Time (ET).
In the past, the pardoned turkey names have been creatively themed around common foods.
