Huge Fire Breaks Out in Minnan Houses in Taijiang, Fujian, Witness: Heard Explosions

On the evening of June 9th, a massive fire broke out in a large area of residential buildings in Xiaheli, Shanghai Street, Taijiang District, Fuzhou, Fujian Province. The scene was engulfed in flames accompanied by explosions.

A viral video circulating online shows thick smoke billowing from the site, indicating a significant blaze that had spread over a wide area. The glow of the fire illuminated the night sky, while sounds of explosions could be heard in the video.

According to reports from Jimo News, the affected area is located in the old town district and mainly consists of old houses. A resident mentioned that the area is close to a hospital and inhabited by many elderly residents, along with some caregivers living there. “It rained heavily last night (9th), I don’t know how the fire started.”

An eyewitness stated that around 11 pm, they witnessed the fire still burning fiercely at the scene, accompanied by loud explosions.

Local residents introduced Xiaheli as “the last old alley in Fuzhou.” Some people remarked that life here seemed unchanged from 20 years ago.

In response to the incident, officials from Shanghai Street stated that all 74 households had been contacted, confirming “no casualties.” Emergency room staff at Fujian Fu Yi Hospital reported that by around 6 am, two lightly injured fire victims had been treated and discharged.

On June 10th, the local authorities announced that on the evening of the 9th at around 9:55 pm, a fire occurred at the residence located at No. 14, Xiaheli, Shanghai Street, Taijiang District. By around 12:50 am on the 10th, the flames had been extinguished. Currently, the cause of the fire is under further investigation.
