The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has issued a reminder to the Taiwanese public on Facebook to be cautious about becoming tools for fraud in mainland China.
According to the MAC, the number of cases in which Taiwanese individuals have been arrested or detained by relevant Chinese authorities for engaging in fraud or acting as drivers in mainland China has been steadily increasing. From January 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025, the MAC has received reports of 175 Taiwanese individuals who have gone missing, been detained for questioning, or arrested in mainland China, with 73 of them being detained due to fraud-related cases.
The MAC advises Taiwanese people to be extra cautious when encountering unrealistic job advertisements or invitations from friends in mainland China that promise “no experience required, high short-term salary, and easy work.” They should be wary of falling into illegal activities, avoiding falling into job traps, and never entertain the idea of participating in fraudulent crimes.
Furthermore, the MAC has compiled a “Handy Guide to Real Cases of Risks Faced by People Going to Mainland China” to remind Taiwanese individuals to register their contact information on the “Taiwanese Citizens Traveling to Mainland China Dynamic Registration System” at https://gov.tw/wpQ before traveling to mainland China. In case of emergencies, the government can provide immediate assistance!
The MAC’s official website will continue to update patterns of behavior that may easily violate national security laws of the People’s Republic of China (https://gov.tw/rui), urging those considering traveling to mainland China to carefully evaluate whether the trip is necessary.
