Subway Line 7 to Halt Service on Two Weekends, Commuters from Queens to Manhattan Must Transfer

New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced that the Subway 7 line will undergo major renovation work starting from May until the end of 2027, resulting in weekend closures and skipping certain stations adjustments. This weekend and the Memorial Day long weekend will see a complete suspension of train services between Queensboro Plaza-74th St-Broadway Station in Queens and 34th St-Hudson Yards Station in Manhattan, affecting a large number of commuting Chinese communities who rely on the 7 line.

According to the MTA announcement, the first closure will be from May 8th (Friday) at 11:30 pm to May 11th (Monday) at 3:30 am; and the second closure will be from May 22nd (Friday) at 11:30 pm to May 25th (Monday) at 10:30 am. During these periods, train services on the 7 line will not operate between 74th St-Broadway and 34th St-Hudson Yards, impacting both directions of service.

This adjustment will have a significant impact on cross-borough weekend travel. Passengers traveling from Queens to Manhattan are advised to consider transferring to the E, F, or R lines at 74th St-Broadway Station; and those commuting in Midtown Manhattan should also take note of service changes at 34th St-Hudson Yards Station, Times Sq-42 St, and Grand Central-42 St along the 7 line.

MTA reminds passengers that some trains will be skipping certain stations during construction. If passengers need to reach a skipped station, they can first take the 7 line to Woodside-61 St or Queensboro Plaza Station, then transfer to a train heading back to Flushing direction; or if starting from a skipped station, they can first take a train to 40 St-Lowery St, Woodside-61 St, or 74 St-Broadway Station, then transfer to a train heading towards Manhattan.

During the closure, MTA will arrange shuttle buses in Queens and Manhattan to help passengers connect through the affected segments. For commuters who rely on the 7 line, especially residents in Flushing, Jackson Heights, Woodside, Long Island City, and Midtown Manhattan, authorities recommend checking the MTA App, station notices, and MTA service change information before heading out to avoid delays.
