Bloomberg: You have to rely on yourselves to be re-elected as Mayor of New York City

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was spotted by citizens in New York City this past Thursday, May 7. One person shouted to him, “Please run for mayor again, I will vote for you!” In response, the 109th Mayor of New York City remarked to the citizen, “It’s up to you.”

A netizen named Mickey NYC posted a video on Platform X, writing: “When Michael Bloomberg and Diana Taylor arrived at tonight’s ballet performance, a photographer began urging him to run for Mayor of New York City again. ‘We need you back… we will vote for you,’ Bloomberg replied: ‘It’s up to you.'”

At 84 years old, Bloomberg appeared healthy in the video. During last year’s mayoral election in New York City, he supported former Governor Cuomo and donated $10 million to his campaign.

Underneath the video, many New Yorkers commented, with some praising Bloomberg for his contributions to the city and others expressing opposition.

Bloomberg is the co-founder and major shareholder of Bloomberg LP and served as CEO of the company for many years. From 2002 to 2013, he was the Mayor of New York City, running for office multiple times as a Democrat, Republican, and Independent. After rejoining the Democratic Party in 2018, he ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 but was ultimately unsuccessful. As of March 2026, Bloomberg’s personal net worth is $10.94 billion, ranking 18th on the Forbes list of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
