Shandong Internet Addiction Treatment School faces wave of protests with overwhelming support online.

On February 1st, students from the fully enclosed anti-addiction school – the Emperor Xianglong Quality Education Base in Dezhou City, Shandong Province, protested against oppression. The school dormitories were vandalized, and the instructors disappeared without a trace. Currently, some students have been taken home by their parents. The official authorities have not released any information regarding the incident. The event has been widely spread on the internet, receiving a lot of praise.

The incident occurred on the evening of February 1st, and a reporter from Epoch Times confirmed the authenticity of the event through interviews.

Xiaojie (alias) from Anhui was captured and taken to this school in July last year and only released in January this year. He stated that the school has about two to three hundred students divided into sections. The protest this time involved Section Three because the instructors there were abusive, which led to the protest. The initiator of the protest was a student assistant (assisting instructors in managing students), who is his friend.

Xiaojie also revealed that the reason for the protest was student oppression, but he couldn’t disclose the specific details. The assistant who initiated the protest is still at the school. According to him, some instructors were attacked, and some students were injured. Currently, the instructors have fled, but the school is still operating, and some students have been taken home by their parents.

Another student’s sister at the school told reporters that her brother contacted their father using a phone on the night of February 1st, saying the school was sealed off by the police, and all instructors were missing. The father rushed to the school after five hours but did not find any instructors; their brother was taken out by other parents.

When the reporter requested direct contact with her brother, the sister mentioned that her brother was scared and cried during the incident and is currently emotionally unstable, making him not suitable for an interview.

“The school’s explanation is that due to the students’ emotional turmoil at year-end, changes in instructors led to misunderstandings among students, and then someone stirred up trouble, resulting in the dormitories being directly sealed off, trapping all children inside. Some dormitories were even dismantled.”

She expressed that after returning home, her brother continued to resist the family, so there was no deep communication.

A local resident told the reporter that the event is undoubtedly true and widely known in the area, although the exact reasons are unclear. The school was originally a private high school but later rented out to this current school after bankruptcy.

Videos showed students breaking the doors and windows of the dormitories, flipping over beds, and smashing the iron bars imprisoning them in front of the downstairs teachers and instructors, causing chaos on the scene.

The Epoch Times reporter contacted the school’s teachers and authorities, but the calls went unanswered. At the time of reporting, no official or media-related information had been released.

The Emperor Xianglong Quality Education Base is affiliated with Shandong Emperor Golden Jubilee Education Management Co., Ltd. It claims to be a regularization training base focusing on teenage growth issues but is actually one of the so-called anti-addiction schools prevalent in mainland China. These schools are often known for their strict management systems and frequently experience incidents of abuse, student beatings, and even student suicides.

A Shandong resident, Li Yong (alias), told reporters that “his sister was sent there by their parents for two months, and after coming out, she revealed that the instructors inside were ex-soldiers who had spent two years in the military, engaged in social activities before serving, involved in illegal gambling and cigarettes. Almost all female dormitory roommates smoked, with most having tattoos.”

Li Yong also disclosed that the inside of the school was chaotic, with a variety of students present. Some students were in relationships with instructors, and there were drug users. Those who made mistakes were locked in solitary confinement. One person was detained for revealing the school fee of 36,000 yuan per half a year to his sister.

Xiaojie also mentioned that training and learning were scheduled from 6 AM to 10 PM daily, with frequent corporal punishment. The instructors used sticks to beat students, and students were punished by being locked in solitary confinement. The school also had previous incidents of student suicides. The living conditions were average, and the cafeteria meals were unappetizing.

Despite the strict suppression of information by authorities, netizens widely spread videos online, leading to praise and support from internet users.
